Windows RT is dead. That much has been made clear by Microsoft time and time again. The operating system that was expected to become the darling of tablet users seeking productivity found almost no takers. That said, Microsoft has always maintained that it will give the operating system one final update that will bring it closer to Windows 10 in terms of experience.

Windows 10

Dubbed Windows 8.1 RT Update 3, the release is expected in September and will be a minor update at best. The software will push the fresh new start menu from Windows 10 that lies at a cross section between Windows 7 and 8 to the tablet OS. In addition, users can expect an updated lock screen. The software update is little more than lip service but it should help placate the small number of Windows RT users who will now have a machine that at least cosmetically looks similar to Windows 10 based hardware.
