Samsung says ChatOn service will continue, dismisses rumors

Earlier this week, a Korea Time report said that Samsung is planning to shut down its ChatOn messaging service. However, Samsung is denying the reports and calling them as rumors.

Samsung ChatON

“The recent rumors concerning ChatOn have been false, as ChatOn will continue to be offered to consumers worldwide.

said Samsung in a statement with The Verge.

ChatOn was first launched in 2011 and is currently being used in 120 countries. However, the service is facing tough competition from rivals like WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger and so on. The service last announced that it had 100 million users while WhatsApp already has more than 500 million users.

The Korea Times report earlier this week said that Samsung has decided to shut down the ChatOn service in selected markets where it is not well received. Also, the move from Samsung was aimed at restructuring the unprofitable business.
