Xiaomi Mi 3 launched in Malaysia, Redmi 1S coming in June

Xiaomi started its operations in Singapore recently and announced that it would expand to 10 more countries this year, including India. Today, at an event Xiaomi’s CEO Lin Bin and Hugo Barra launched the Mi 3 in Malaysia. This is the first phone to launch in the country after its entry and it plans to launch Redmi 1S in Malaysia next month.

To celebrate the launch, Xiaomi has also released custom MIUI Theme in the MIUI Theme Store. The theme highlights Malaysian landmarks and culture such as Twin Towers, the Malaysian national flag, and KL Tower, said Hugo Barra.

The Xiaomi Mi-3 was unveiled in China last year and packs a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display, powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM 8974AB) processor with Adreno 330 GPU runs on MIUI v5 based on Android 4.3. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor RS BSI sensor and a 2-megapixel BSI front-facing camera.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 RM 889 (Rs. 16170 approx.) and would go on sale in Malaysia through the official website starting 12PM on May 20th. It also plans to partner with local operators Celcom, Digi and Maxis. Xiaomi’s Mi Power Bank, a 10,400mAh portable battery pack with aluminium casing priced at RM36 (Rs. 650 approx.) would also go on sale in the country tomorrow. Looks like Xiaomi might enter India soon to compete with global and Indian OEMs.
