Madras high court directs ban on downloading of TikTok app

The Madurai bench of the Madras high court today issued an interim direction to the state authorities to prohibit downloading of TikTok Mobile Application and also said that medias are prohibited from telecasting the videos made using the app. This is in response to a petition which sought a ban on the app stating that the app promotes disturbing content and degrades culture. TikTok agrees to settle $5.7 million FTC fine over children’s privacy law violations

Owing to the alleged children’s privacy law violations, TikTok has agreed to pay $5.7 million to settle accusations. The short-form video app is also required to get parental approval for users under 13 years of age, to comply with the federal law. All the videos that were previously uploaded by users under the age of 13 will be removed as well. Musical.ly short video service gets rebranded to TikTok

Musical.ly, the short-form video app has announced that it is shutting down and the users will be migrated to TikTok which is also a similar short-form video-sharing app from Chinese internet giant Bytedance.
