Facebook has released the Express Wi-Fi app for locally operated hotspots for Android. The app lets users buy data packs and find nearby hotspots as part of Facebook’s distributed Wi-Fi network. Facebook has officially announced the commercial launch of Express Wi-Fi in India. The social network was testing this service in the country since August last year. Facebook has launched 700 hotspots across the four Indian states of Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Meghalaya. Facebook is testing an Express WiFi service in India and is in talks with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for a commercial launch. The social network has completed a pilot roll out of 125 rural public Wi-Fi hotspots in the country with a tie-up with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
