Google Finance gets AI portfolio tracking, market updates, and Android app

Google has announced a major update to Google Finance, introducing portfolio tracking, AI-powered market updates, and a dedicated Android app. The update expands tools for tracking investments, analyzing portfolios, and receiving personalized financial insights.

The new experience allows users to build portfolios using screenshots, CSV or PDF files, or natural language descriptions. It also introduces AI-driven research tools and scheduled market briefings based on user-defined topics and holdings.

AI portfolio tracking

Google Finance now lets users manage all investments through a single portfolio dashboard. Existing portfolios are automatically available in the new experience, while new portfolios can be created using screenshots, CSV or PDF uploads, or natural language descriptions.

The dashboard provides a consolidated view of investments, showing:

  • Portfolio performance data
  • Asset allocation insights
  • Other investment information tailored to user holdings
  • Support for screenshots, CSV, and PDF uploads
  • Natural language portfolio creation

Once set up, users can use the AI research tool to analyze portfolios and ask questions such as identifying underrepresented sectors or evaluating long-term growth impact of fixed-income allocations.

Personalized market updates

Google Finance can generate personalized market briefings based on user-defined topics and interests. Users can create tasks such as daily pre-market briefings covering major overnight cryptocurrency movements.

Tasks can be customized with schedules and instructions, and can also use watchlists or portfolios for more relevant insights. The system runs in the background and delivers updates on a preferred schedule.

Completed briefings appear as notifications in the Google app for Android and iOS. They are also available in the web research panel, where users can view and edit existing tasks.

This capability is available globally.

Dedicated Android app

Google has introduced a dedicated Google Finance app for Android, bringing the core experience to mobile users.

The app provides access to:

  • Watchlists
  • Real-time market data
  • Live financial news feed
  • AI research tool
  • AI-powered “Key Moments” explaining stock movements

Google says additional web features, including live earnings calls, portfolio tools, and market update tasks, will be added to the Android app over the coming months.

Availability

Google says the updated Google Finance experience is rolling out globally after exiting beta. Portfolio tracking and AI-powered market updates are available globally.

The Android app is available starting this week. An iOS version will arrive later this year.
