YouTube Shorts gets Reimagine tool for Remixing

YouTube is rolling out “Reimagine,” a new feature designed to expand the remixing capabilities within its Shorts platform. Powered by Google’s Veo video generation model, the tool enables users to convert a single frame from an existing Short into a newly generated eight-second video clip.

How the Feature Works

The Reimagine tool introduces several new AI-driven modification options for users:

  • Asset Insertion: Users can upload up to two reference images from their device’s photo gallery to insert themselves or specific objects directly into the frame of an existing Short.
  • Prompt-Based Generation: The creation process is guided by text prompts. Users can either type their own custom instructions or select from prompt suggestions generated by Gemini.
  • Multimedia Output: The final result is a newly generated, high-quality video clip that includes integrated audio.
Creator Attribution

To maintain proper sourcing and attribution within the ecosystem, YouTube has structured the feature so that any Short created with the Reimagine tool automatically includes a direct link back to the original source video. This mechanism is designed to ensure that original creators receive credit for the foundational content, which may also facilitate broader reach and visibility for their original work.

Availability

Users looking to utilize this new capability can access it by navigating to the “Remix” tool menu on any eligible YouTube Short.
