Telegram and Elon Musk’s xAI have reached a financial agreement to bring xAI’s chatbot, Grok, to the instant messaging platform. Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, confirmed the news via posts on X and Telegram.
According to Pavel, Telegram has entered into a one-year partnership to bring xAI’s chatbot Grok to its billion+ users and integrate it across all Telegram apps.
This move not only provides users with cutting-edge AI technology but also strengthens Telegram’s financial position. Telegram will receive USD 300 million in cash and equity from xAI, along with 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram.
While confirming the news, he also shared a video clip teasing AI-based features coming to Telegram, starting in June 2025. Grok AI will be pinned in chats by default for all Telegram users, allowing instant access. Users will also be able to access it via Telegram search.
The new AI features teased in the video include:
- Smart Text Editing, which should allow users to improve, expand, or change the tone of the messages typed.
- Chat Summaries will allow users to summarize long-form messages.
- There’s also document summarization that should allow users to summarize documents instantly.
- Link Insights should allow users to summarize links quickly without even opening them.
- Fact Check in Telegram channels should help users fact-check a message before taking any action.
- Instant sticker generation using an AI prompt
- Avatar creation for exciting display pictures of users
It’s unclear whether these features will be available for free to all users or restricted to Telegram Premium users. We should get more details about them when these features start to roll out next month.
