Vodafone India partners with Opera to bring web pass service

Vodafone India has partnered with Opera Software to bring web pass services for Indian customers. Opera Web Pass was announced back in 2012, and lets operators offer time or site specific, mobile internet offerings to their customers. This will encourage new users to get online using their mobile devices and also help increase data usage among the existing users, believes Vodafone and Opera.

This lets users enjoy time-based usage such as browsing social-networking sites for a day or an hour, or content-based web-pass packages from Vodafone, instead of complex KB/MB-based data plans. Vodafone is the first operator in India to introduce the Opera Web pass.  Last week Opera introduced Sponsored Web Pass for the operators to offer mobile internet packages to consumers that lets operators team up with advertisers to sponsor mobile internet access for a limited time, completely free of cost.

Vodafone had already partnered with Opera back in 2011 to launch a Co-branded version of Opera Mini to Vodafone customers. The Opera web pass service also lets operator monitor and optimize web passes and campaigns in near real time, allowing for testing and faster go-to-market timelines.
