Tizen 3.0 features announced, Samsung NX300M Smart camera is the first Tizen device


Tizen 3.0 Features

Samsung has finally announced the features of the Tizen 3.0 OS at the Developer Summit in Seoul, Korea. At the summit, the Tizen 2.2.1 was also announced with  new features in privacy control and system framework including option to install the apps in the SD card and firmware download support for  USB.org framework test tool and Mac OS X. Main features of the Tizen 3.0 include, Updated Core and ToolChain, Multiple user support 64-bit Support and more.

  • 64-bit Support –  IA and ARM chips, Performance improvements, Larger Memory Address space
  • 3D UI framework – 3D Rendering Engine for 2D and 3D Objects in the real world and Dynamic Animation Library
  • WayLand based compositor
  • Crosswalk – HTML5 based application runtime based on Chromium / Blink

Samsung Tizen NX300M

Even though we are yet to see the first Tizen OS-powered smartphone, Samsung has announced that the NX300M smart camera that is already in sale in Samsung’s home ground Korea since October, is the first device to be powered by Tizen OS. According to Samsung, the Tizen-powered NX300M camera is twice faster in booting compared to other Linux-based camera in the similar range and can capture images at 20MP resolution, 9 shots per second.

The Tizen 3.0 final public release is expected only in Q3, 2014. No details about the Tizen smartphone release date yet, but it is rumored for February 2014 launch.
