Human Mobile Devices (HMD) recently expanded its feature phone lineup with the launch of the HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition. Tailored specifically for older adults, the handset integrates “Mary,” a built-in artificial intelligence companion developed to provide conversation, storytelling, and cognitive engagement.
The device is the result of a collaboration established in March 2026 between HMD and inTouch, a firm specializing in AI-driven companionship for seniors. Rather than requiring users to navigate application stores or manage complex setups, the inTouch AI assistant is embedded directly into the phone’s interface.
AI Companion Capabilities and Interface
Mary is engineered to address the specific communication needs of older users. The assistant utilizes simplified language, adopts a measured speaking pace, and accommodates extended conversational pauses. Functional capabilities include discussing general interest topics such as nature and history, narrating stories, and hosting memory games. Mary also retains details from prior exchanges to personalize ongoing interactions.
Accessing the service involves selecting Mary from the phone’s main menu and pressing the call button. The service operates on a 24/7 basis without requiring separate logins or passwords after initial activation.
Service Structure and Subscription Pricing
While the phone provides immediate access to the AI companion, ongoing usage is subject to recurring fees:
- Complimentary Allowance: The purchase price includes an initial five hours of conversation time with Mary.
- Subscription Fee: Continued access beyond the initial five-hour allocation requires an ongoing subscription of €19.90 per month, excluding any potential standard carrier charges.
- Billing Terms: The monthly subscription does not renew automatically. Should a user decline or let the subscription lapse, the core telephony features of the device remain fully functional.
Hardware Specifications
Apart from the specialized software integration, the Senior Edition retains the core hardware platform of the standard HMD 2660 Flip that was introduced last year. The dual-screen clamshell design includes large physical keypads and the proprietary S30+ operating system to facilitate ease of use.
