Microsoft has announced the new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch with the Snapdragon X2 Plus processor at Snapdragon Summit. Alongside the two PCs, the company has introduced the new Surface Mouse with integrated haptic feedback.
Microsoft says its Surface engineers worked with Qualcomm Technologies during Snapdragon X2 silicon development to tune the platform for thin and light PCs. The work focused on sustained performance, efficient power use, quiet thermals and responsive on-device AI.
The new PCs run Windows and support Copilot and Microsoft 365 experiences. Supported AI experiences can use the device, the cloud or both. Microsoft says this approach can provide lower latency, reduce dependence on cloud calls and tokens, and keep data on the device.
Compared with the previous generations, Microsoft says the new PCs offer:
- Up to 17% faster Office productivity workloads
- Up to 18% more efficient battery performance
- More than 60% faster graphics performance
- Up to 95% faster local AI inferencing on the NPU
Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd Edition)
The Surface Pro 12-inch is a thin, light and fanless Windows PC that can be used as a tablet or laptop. The Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard supports writing, coding and responding to email, while the magnetically stored Surface Slim Pen supports writing, sketching and annotation.
With Snapdragon X2 Plus, Microsoft says the Surface Pro 12-inch is more responsive for tasks such as summarizing notes, editing photos and annotating designs. It also adds an extra hour of active web browsing compared with the previous generation.
Other changes include a 25% brighter, 500-nit PixelSense touchscreen, a new Black color and an enclosure made with 86% recycled content.

Microsoft Ink Canvas
The Surface Pro 12-inch also introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered, pen-first experience for sketching, annotation, image generation and text summarization. It supports visual, spatial and handwriting-based input, while Microsoft says Slim Pen input gives Copilot richer context.
Ink Canvas comes pre-installed on the new Surface Pro 12-inch. Microsoft will also make it available through the Microsoft Store for other supported Surface and Windows devices.
Surface Laptop 13-inch (2nd Edition)
The Surface Laptop 13-inch is a thin, light and fanless Windows PC with a full-size backlit keyboard, precision touchpad, aluminum body and a taller 3:2 PixelSense touchscreen.
Microsoft cites everyday tasks such as streaming a movie and designing a presentation when describing the Snapdragon X2 Plus-powered laptop. It also features a 25% brighter, 500-nit display, up to 22.5 hours of battery life and a new Black color.

Surface Mouse
The new Surface Mouse adds integrated haptic feedback that provides a physical response to on-screen actions, such as:
- A click registering
- A window snapping into place
- An object aligning
The mouse has a redesigned ambidextrous shape, a customizable action button for Copilot and everyday shortcuts, and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity. It can also be paired with multiple devices and switched between them.
The Surface Mouse is made with 30% recycled content, including the most post-consumer recycled plastic of any Surface mouse, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft Surface for Business
For commercial customers, the Surface Pro 12-inch also offers an optional 5G configuration. Across both PCs, Microsoft says Snapdragon X2 Plus provides a consistent foundation for supported local AI experiences.
Business security and management features include:

- Microsoft Pluton with TPM 2.0
- Surface UEFI with Secure Patina Core
- Project Mu open-source components available through the Open Device Partnership
Surface Tools for Business includes Surface Management Portal, Surface Support Portal, Surface IT Toolkit and Surface Repair Tool. These tools support device management, protection, support and recovery throughout the device lifecycle.
Pricing and availability
The Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch will be available starting October 13 in select markets, with both models offered in Platinum, Violet, and Black. Pricing starts at:
