At its Autumn New Product Launch Event, Xiaomi officially introduced its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, as it had announced.
Led by Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, the company detailed the specifications, hardware upgrades, pricing, and availability for both models. Xiaomi also confirmed that the standard Xiaomi 18 edition will launch separately later this year.
Design and Display Architecture
Both devices incorporate a new generation of self-developed screen packaging technology that reduces bezels to an ultra-narrow 0.99 mm on all four sides. The chassis features a large micro-arc quad-curved frame designed for ergonomic handling, alongside an integrated, flat rear secondary screen with similarly minimal borders.
There is also a Transparent Edition for both the models with Avant-Garde Design: Featuring a red, transparent Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 back panel that showcases the beauty of technology.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro comes equipped with a 6.4-inch display, and the Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, while both models feature the SuperPixel 2.0 display with an M11 luminescent system. The panel utilizes new green light-emitting materials and a full RGB pixel arrangement, reaching a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. Additional display attributes include an LTPO 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and support for the BT.2020 ultra-wide color gamut.
Hardware-Level Privacy Screen
The display integrates hardware-level intelligent privacy protection designed to narrow viewing angles when activated without sacrificing visual clarity, while maintaining standard viewing angles when disabled. The system allows users to define custom privacy application lists. Once an app is designated:
- Notifications, floating windows, and multitasking previews undergo pixel-level obfuscation.
- Rules can be personalized in tandem with on-device AI.
- A dedicated, customizable physical AI button provides one-click toggling for global privacy mode.
Performance and Thermal Engineering
The lineup marks the debut of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, manufactured on a 2nm flagship process node. Key performance benchmarks and architecture specifications announced by Xiaomi include:
- CPU: Reaches up to 5.0 GHz maximum clock speeds.
- GPU & NPU: GPU performance is rated 35% higher with a 40% reduction in power consumption; NPU inference performance increases by 80%, with an overall computing power increase of 15%.
- Thermal Dissipation: Employs OFFSET PoP high-thermal-conductivity chip packaging alongside a redesigned ring-shaped cold pump cooling system, aimed at sustaining full frame rates during extended heavy-load gaming sessions.
Battery, Connectivity, and Hardware Features
Both handsets utilize Xiaomi’s next-generation Jinshajiang silicon-carbon batteries, which incorporate a 32% silicon content:
- Xiaomi 18 Pro: 7,000 mAh capacity
- Xiaomi 18 Pro Max: 8,500 mAh capacity
Additional hardware features shared across the flagship tier include:
- Haptics: A 7514 linear motor providing a 75% improvement in transient vibration response, integrated into an ultra-wideband cyber motor covering 26 categories and 183 operational scenarios with fine-tuning support.
- Durability: Rated for IP66, IP68, and IP69 dust and water resistance.
- Connectivity & Audio: UWB (Ultra-Wideband) interconnection hardware; the Pro Max further integrates a triple stereo speaker array.
Leica Triple-Lens Imaging System
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max share an identical rear triple-camera array co-engineered with Leica:
- Main Camera: 200MP, 1/1.28″ sensor (Light Hunter 960) with high dynamic range.
- Telephoto Camera: 200MP periscope lens, 1/1.56″ sensor (Samsung HP5, 75mm equivalent focal length) supporting macro photography down to 12 cm.
- Ultra-Wide Camera: 50MP sensor (OmniVision OV51D).
Image Processing & AI Features
The camera suite introduces the “Legendary Moment” large-model imaging pipeline. The system preserves raw sensor data and uses a hybrid processing approach: on-device hardware handles real-time capture across three classic camera profiles, while cloud processing works to reproduce the optical characteristics of traditional camera hardware.
The accompanying AI-assisted shooting system includes:
- Location-based recommendations for popular shooting spots.
- Automated composition analysis and filter matching.
- Real-time posture guidance for portrait subjects.
Rear Secondary Screen Functionality
Both models include a functional rear display panel with dynamic notification support. According to Xiaomi data shared at the event, its rear screen ecosystem has reached 3.97 million daily active users, 138 million monthly assistant interactions, and 497 million monthly wallpaper installations.
The interface supports over 100 dedicated application cards at launch, including quick widgets, notification feeds, decompression games, and AI-generated custom apps. The AI system also allows users to generate personalized rear wallpapers based on photos of pets, idols, or artifacts, matching specific phone cases.
Software: HyperOS 4 and Super Xiao Ai 2.0
The devices launch with HyperOS 4 pre-installed. The operating system integrates Super Xiao Ai 2.0, powered by the Xiaomi MiMo foundation model. The assistant has received ecosystem-level intelligent agent certification, enabling:
- One-click memory retention, autonomous task planning, and complex multi-step execution.
- Cross-device coordination, allowing connected tablets and PCs to directly access and process smartphone data under integrated security protocols.
