Apple is reportedly preparing a new lineup of smart home devices, including a Siri AI-powered home hub, a refreshed Apple TV and an updated HomePod mini. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming devices will compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub in the AI-powered smart home market.
Siri AI-powered home hub
The smart home hub is expected to feature a roughly 7-inch square display and will reportedly be available in two versions. The J490 variant is said to place the display on a half-dome base resembling a HomePod mini, while the wall-mounted J491 version will attach using a magnetic system.
The device is expected to run a new operating system based on tvOS, combining elements of tvOS, watchOS and iOS with a grid of icons, widgets and apps.
Reported features include:
- FaceTime video calls
- Home security monitoring
- Household intercom
- Smart home controls for compatible devices, including speakers and locks
- Access to Photos, Calendar and Music
- Customisable clock faces
The hub is also expected to feature facial recognition that can identify users, detect their viewing distance and personalise the interface in real time. It can reportedly adjust the size and type of information displayed while showing personalised content such as calendars and notes.
Apple’s upcoming Siri AI is expected to:
- Access personal information
- Provide more advanced voice control across apps
- Work with a companion iPhone interface for setup and management
New Apple TV and HomePod mini
The refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini, codenamed J265 and B525, are expected to retain their current designs while gaining faster processors for Siri AI features. According to the report, Apple recently increased their prices to $199 for the Apple TV and $129 for the HomePod mini.
More smart home products in development
Bloomberg also reports that Apple is developing:
- A higher-end robotic home hub with a movable 9-inch display mounted on a robotic arm that can reposition during FaceTime calls and keep people or objects in view.
- An advanced indoor security camera, codenamed J450.
- A home security system designed to compete with Amazon Ring.
Launch timeline
According to the report, Apple has been developing these smart home devices since 2024. Their launch was delayed after Siri AI encountered engineering and quality issues before being rebranded. Siri AI is now expected to debut alongside iOS 27 and Apple’s other operating systems later this year.
The refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini are expected to launch this fall, while the Siri AI-powered home hub could arrive between October and early next year. However, the timeline could still change.
