Google has announced new Android updates focused on file sharing, device migration, and secure messaging across Android and iOS platforms. The updates introduce Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop, a redesigned iPhone-to-Android transfer process, and end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging between Android and iOS users.
Android Quick Share now supports sharing with iOS devices
Google says Quick Share is being updated to make file transfers easier between Android and iOS devices. The feature allows users to share photos, videos, and files across platforms more easily.
Quick Share is now compatible with AirDrop on supported Android smartphones, starting with Google Pixel devices. Google says support will expand to additional Android partners this year, including Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, vivo, Xiaomi, and HONOR.

For Android phones that do not support the compatibility feature, Quick Share can generate a QR code that allows users to instantly share files with iOS devices through the cloud.
Google also confirmed that Quick Share support will soon expand to selected apps, including WhatsApp.

Android improves iPhone-to-Android transfer process
Google says it worked with Apple to redesign the iOS-to-Android migration process to help users move their data more easily between devices. The updated wireless transfer system supports migration of:
- Passwords
- Photos
- Messages
- Favorite apps
- Contacts
- Homescreen layout
- eSIM data
Android and iOS RCS chats now support end-to-end encryption
Google also announced end-to-end encryption support for RCS messages across Android and iOS platforms. The company says around 2.5 billion RCS messages are currently sent daily, based on the average from the past 28 days.
With the new update, RCS conversations between Android and iOS users will support end-to-end encryption for secure messaging and improved privacy.
Availability
Google says the QR-based Quick Share sharing feature starts rolling out to all Android phones today and will become fully available within the next month.
The upgraded iPhone-to-Android migration process with eSIM transfer support will launch first on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices later this year.
