
Garmin has introduced the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170, two running-focused smartwatches designed to support training, recovery tracking, and everyday fitness use.
Both models feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, touchscreen support, and a 5-button layout for navigation during workouts. They also include GPS tracking, health monitoring, smart notifications, and multi-day battery life.
Garmin Forerunner 70
The Forerunner 70 is designed for runners who want structured guidance along with core tracking tools. It focuses on simplifying training while offering adaptive insights based on performance and recovery data. It supports essential running metrics and expands into deeper training analysis using Garmin’s performance systems.

- Built-in GPS with pace, distance, time, and wrist heart rate tracking
- Quick workouts based on fitness level, time, and intensity input
- Garmin Coach plans that adjust daily using health and recovery data
- Garmin Run Coach with run/walk and low-volume training options
- Daily adaptive workout suggestions, including run/walk sessions
- Training analytics powered by the Garmin Human Performance Lab (training readiness, status, running power, running dynamics)
- 80+ sports modes including swimming, cycling, and strength training
- 24/7 health tracking with sleep monitoring, sleep coach, HRV status, Pulse Ox, breathing variations, lifestyle logging, and Health Status
- Safety features including LiveTrack and smart alerts
Battery life is rated up to 13 days in smartwatch mode, with colour options including citron, soft pink, tidal blue, cool lavender, black, and whitestone.
Garmin Forerunner 170
The Forerunner 170 extends the Forerunner 70 with added convenience features for users who want more independence during runs and daily activities. It retains all training and health features while adding payment and media capabilities.

Key additions include:
- Garmin Pay for contactless payments
- Music support with offline downloads on the Forerunner 170 Music variant (third-party services, subscription required)
- Phone-free audio playback via Bluetooth headphones

The model shares the same training system and health tracking features as the Forerunner 70 but focuses more on daily usability and convenience.
Battery life is up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, with colour options including black with black/amp yellow band, whitestone with whitestone/cloud blue band, plus Music variants in teal green with citron band and red pink with mango band.

The new Garmin Forerunner lineup will be available from May 15, 2026.
