realme has officially announced the global debut of its proprietary imaging technology, LumaColor IMAGE. The new system is scheduled to launch with the upcoming realme 16 Pro Series smartphones. Alongside this announcement, the company confirmed a collaboration with certification body TÜV Rheinland to establish a dedicated testing facility.
Collaboration with TÜV Rheinland
To support the development of this new technology, realme and TÜV Rheinland have jointly established the LumaColor IMAGE LAB. According to the company, this facility is designed to test and calibrate color performance across a variety of real-world lighting scenarios.
The lab recreates environments such as dimly lit restaurants, indoor cafés with warm lighting, and spaces with high saturation or mixed lighting sources. The data gathered from these tests is intended to refine the LumaColor processing pipeline, ensuring stability and accuracy in color reproduction.
Focus on Portrait Photography
The LumaColor IMAGE technology is primarily focused on enhancing portrait photography. Realme states that the system aims to improve the coordination between light and color processing to avoid common issues such as overexposure or color distortion.
Key features of the technology include:
- Skin Tone Optimization: The system utilizes “full-dimensional skin tone optimization” designed to render diverse complexions accurately.
- Depth and Lighting: The technology incorporates optical depth-of-field fusion blur and light/shadow reconstruction to improve subject isolation and add texture to the images.
Availability
While the inclusion of LumaColor IMAGE on the realme 16 Pro Series has been confirmed, the company has not yet released a specific launch date, but it is expected in early January 2026.
