Apple is reportedly working on a significant front camera upgrade for an upcoming iPad Pro model. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the M5 iPad Pro is expected to feature a second front-facing camera placed along the portrait edge of the device.
Improved Experience in Any Orientation
According to the report, the iPad Pro might include front cameras on both the landscape and portrait edges, improving FaceTime and selfie experiences in any orientation. The current M4 iPad Pro has only one front camera, placed for landscape use. Although Face ID works in all orientations, some users were unhappy when the front camera shifted from portrait to landscape last year. The dual-camera setup aims to fix this issue.
Focus on Modest Upgrades for 2025
The update is expected to be part of a modest refresh. Last year’s M4 iPad Pro brought major changes like a thinner design and OLED display. In contrast, the M5 model is rumored to focus on internal upgrades like the M5 chip and this new front camera arrangement.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that M5 iPad Pro models would enter mass production in the second half of 2025. However, Apple could launch them sooner, possibly in September or October, based on its usual 18-month iPad Pro cycle.
