Google has announced a major change to how trending content is highlighted on YouTube. The platform is ending its traditional Trending page and moving to category-based YouTube Charts that showcase popular videos in specific areas. This change represents a major update from the original Trending format launched back in 2015.
Why YouTube Is Making This Change
YouTube says viewer behavior has shifted over the years, with trends now influenced by search, recommendations, comments, and Community features. The move to category-based charts reflects this evolution and builds on the YouTube Charts format that started in 2018.
Key Changes in How YouTube Shows Trends
Trending Section Removed, Category Charts Take Over
The platform is dropping its standalone Trending section, including the “Trending Now” feed. Instead, users can now find trending content across specific sections on YouTube Charts, such as:
- Trending Music Videos
- Top Weekly Podcast Shows
- Trending Movie Trailers
More categories will be introduced in the future. Meanwhile, trending gaming videos will still appear under the Gaming Explore section.

More Personalized Content Discovery
YouTube will continue to recommend trending content based on each user’s viewing habits. These personalized suggestions will appear alongside Charts. For those looking for general content, the Explore tab, Subscriptions feed, and creator channels will remain accessible.
Better Tools and Exposure for Creators
To help creators spot what’s popular with their audience, YouTube will continue offering trend insights via the Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio. YouTube is also rolling out new tools aimed at spotlighting rising creators, such as:
- Hype – lets users spotlight new videos they want others to see
- Creators on the Rise – featured on @YouTube and the homepage
- Artist on the Rise – now showcased on the Music Explore page
Availability
YouTube said that these updates will go live globally starting July 21, 2025. As part of the update, the Music tab will take the place of the Trending tab in the sidebar on both the web and mobile app.
