Google Pixel Watch 2 detailed specs surface

A recent report from Android Authority has disclosed the specifications of the Pixel Watch 2. This follows the earlier leak of new watch faces for the device.

Design, display and Battery Capacity

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to share some similarities with its predecessor, including its design. Rumors suggest that the second-generation model will feature a 1.2-inch 384 x 384 round OLED screen, much like the previous model.

However, the screen is reportedly going to be manufactured by Samsung Display, instead of BOE as it was in the past. To further improve battery life, the Pixel Watch 2 features a slightly larger battery with a 306mAh capacity.

Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor

The Pixel Watch 2 ditches the outdated Exynos 9110 SoC and adopts a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor. With four Arm Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.7GHz and a modern Adreno 702 GPU, the new chip offers enhanced performance compared to its predecessor.

One of the major improvements is the significant boost in battery efficiency. The Pixel Watch 2 utilizes the Samsung 4nm process, similar to recent smartphone chips, which greatly enhances its energy efficiency and addresses the weak battery life issue experienced in the original Pixel Watch.

Custom Coprocessor and Ultra-wideband (UWB) Support

Google has made a unique choice by incorporating a custom coprocessor based on an NXP chip, rather than opting for the W5 Plus variant. Moreover, the Pixel Watch 2 embraces the inclusion of UWB technology, potentially enabling precise device finding and Digital Car Key functionality.

Wear OS 4 and Seamless Updates

The Pixel Watch 2 will come equipped with Wear OS 4 based on Android 13, offering dynamic theming support and seamless updates – a first for smartwatches. The seamless updates ensure a smoother user experience without extended interruptions during system upgrades.

LTE and Wi-Fi Variants

Developed under the codenames “Eos” and “Aurora,” the Pixel Watch 2 will be available in two separate variants – one with LTE support and the other with Wi-Fi connectivity.

Retail Animation for Attraction

A retail animation, termed “attract loop,” will be displayed on demo units of the Pixel Watch 2. Although it does not reveal any features, it showcases a visually appealing Material style design to engage potential customers.

Multiple Model Numbers and Potential Launch in India

The Pixel Watch 2 will have three model numbers – G4TSL, GC3G8, and GD2WG. While specific regional availability details are not yet complete, regulatory e-labels hint at a possible launch in India.

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to be announced alongside the Pixel 8 series later this year.
