Zoom licenced to provide telecom services in India

Zoom Video Communications (ZVC) has announced that it has secured a pan-India telecom licence, which enables the company to offer its cloud-based private branch exchange (PBX) service, Zoom Phone, to businesses and multinational corporations (MNCs) in India. Cisco Webex received a similar licence last year.

With these licences, ZVC will provide telephone services to enterprise customers in the country. The PBX system acts as a local telephone exchange, facilitating conference call management for businesses. The licence is an important milestone for ZVC and underscores its commitment to the strategic growth market of India.

Raje, ZVC’s General Manager and Head for India and SAARC, noted the company’s dedication to delivering new and innovative collaboration solutions for Indian users.

According to the company’s statement, Zoom Phone’s growth exceeded 100% year-on-year globally in fiscal year 2023, with over 5.5 million seats added in the fourth quarter.

In addition to cloud PBX service, Zoom collaborates with global telecom providers to offer calling plans and phone numbers across 47 countries and territories.

Commenting on the announcement, ZVC General Manager and Head, India and SAARC Region, Sameer Raje, said:

We are pleased to announce that ZVC India, a subsidiary of Zoom Video Communications, Inc., has been granted the Unified License with Access pan India, NLD National Long Distance, and ILD International Long Distance from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
