Adobe to introduce freemium version of Photoshop on the web

Adobe Photoshop is a well-known image editing and creation tool that offers powerful features. The company has revealed plans to offer a freemium version of Photoshop that will work on the web, and has begun testing a free version for users in Canada.

Adobe currently offers Photoshop across many platforms now. On the desktop, both on PC and macOS, the app offers the widest amount of features, and it is a paid service. On Android and iOS, the service offers a freemium service, providing free access to the basic tools, and locking some features behind a subscription service.

For the web client, Adobe offers a simplified version with just the core features of Photoshop for free. To access the more powerful tools, users will need to pay for a Photoshop subscription. The idea behind this decision is to let more people try out Photoshop and maybe interest them into buying the premium features. Offering this on the web will bring access to Photoshop on nearly any smart device, including Chromebooks, which is an untapped market for Adobe.

The free version of Photoshop on the web is currently being testing in Canada, and is expected to roll out widely soon. Adobe has not released a timeline yet for when Photoshop on the web will become a freemium service.
