Apple may release 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip, Mac Pro with up to 128 GPU cores and more in 2022

2022 is set to be a big year for Apple, as the company is reportedly gearing to update their hardware product lineup with multiple launches. According to Bloomberg reporter, Apple is expected to launch several new Mac models that will feature flavours of their custom Apple Silicon processors, including a new M2 chip.

In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman details the various Mac models that he expects Apple to launch in 2022. They include:

  • A 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip
  • A Mac mini with an M1 Pro chip, and a Mac mini later in the year with an M2 chip.
  • A 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip
  • A redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip
  • A larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options
  • A Mac Pro, finally powered by Apple Silicon inside

The Mac Pro will feature a super-charged version of the M1 Max, with two options – a 20 CPU core and 64 GPU core model and a higher 40 CPU core and 128 GPU core model. The M2 chip, on the other hand, will likely be a faster version of the M1 chip, while sharing a similar CPU architecture and maybe more GPU cores.

Apple is expected to hold their first event of the year on March 8th, where they will launch the iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air. They might launch their first Mac device during the same event too. Following that, Apple is expected to hold launch events in May or June, and may even launch new Macs during their 2022 WWDC event.
