Google Phone app testing Caller ID announcement and auto-delete for Call screen transcripts

Google Phone

One of Google’s headline features for its Phone app on Pixel devices is its Call-Screen feature, which is apparently going to get improved with the ability to automatically delete transcripts. Along with this feature, Google is also testing another small feature – Caller ID announcement.

The Call-Screen feature was first introduced with Pixel 3. It would use the Google Assistant to pick up an incoming call to the user, request the purpose of the call and then display a transcript of what the caller was saying. The feature has since been expanded to all Pixel devices.

While having the transcript is great, having months or even year old transcripts of calls can simply be a waste of space in your smartphone. To solve this, Google is testing an option, which when activated, will auto-delete these transcripts after 30 days.

Another little improvement that Google is testing for the app is the ability to announce the incoming call’s caller ID name or number. The feature has existed for many other 3rd party Phone apps for a long time now, so it is nice to see it finally come for the default Google Phone app now.

These two features are still being tested for the Google Phone app, and it is unclear as to when Google will be rolling out the feature widely.
