Apple just announced its latest Apple Watch Series 6 along with the Apple Watch SE at its ‘Time Flies‘ event. The Watch Series runs on the new watchOS 7, features a Blood Oxygen sensor, and more.
The Watch Series 6 now features an enhanced Always-On Retina display that is up to 2.5 times brighter than the previous generation and thanks to the Always-On display, users can access Notification Center and Control Center, change watch faces, tap on complications without having to wake their watch screen. Moving on, the highlighting feature of the new Apple Watch Series 6 is the Blood Oxygen sensor that conveniently measures the oxygen saturation (SpO2) of a user’s blood. It is designed to measure blood oxygen between 70 percent and 100 percent, and it employs 4 clusters of green, red, and infrared LEDs, along with the 4 photodiodes on the back crystal. Users can manage all of this data on the Health app.
Under the hood, the Watch Series 6 is powered by a dual-core processor based on A13 Bionic that is present on the iPhone 11. It also features the upgraded S6 System in Package (SiP) that offers up to 20% faster compared to the previous generation along with 18-hour battery life. Further, the Watch Series 6 comes with an always-on altimeter that shows the real-time elevation.
As for the software, the Watch Series 6 runs on watchOS 7 that comes with 7 new watch faces including Stripes, Chronograph Pro, GMT, Artist, and there are other new features such as low-range VO2 Max, automatic handwashing detection, sleep tracking, and more. watchOS 7 also comes with Family Setup that allows children to access Emergency SOS, enjoy Activity rings experience, utilize Schooltime mode, etc.
Lastly, Apple is also introducing a new Solo Loop stretchable band (soft silicone and braided yarn) for the Watch Series 6 and there is a new blue color option along with the usual space gray, silver, gold aluminum, and (PRODUCT)RED. Apple says that there are 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in the Taptic Engine, nearly 100 percent recycled tungsten throughout the product, and a 100 percent recycled case on aluminum models. Further, you won’t find the AC adapter in the Apple Watch Series 6 packaging as Apple is removing the same that could become electronic waste.
Pricing and availability
Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS) is priced starting at Rs. 40,900 and the Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular) is priced starting at Rs. 49,900, and the Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop in (PRODUCT)RED will be available in late October. The Watch Series 6 will be available soon through Apple Authorised Resellers in India.
