Instagram introduces extra user details in profiles, account verification service; support for third-party authenticator apps coming soon

Photo and video sharing social network, Instagram has introduced new tools in an attempt to enhance the security of the community. The company has announced three significant tool: About This Account, Increasing Access to Verification and Support for Third-Party Authenticator Apps.

The “About this account” section in the Instagram provides more information about the accounts with large followings. With this, you can access details like the date the account joined Instagram, the country where the account is located, accounts with shared followers, any username changes in the last year and any ads the account is currently running.

The company also mentioned that, in September, user accounts with large audiences can review the information and will be rolled out to the public soon to the global community.

The second change made by the company has to do with account verification request through a form within the Instagram app. To access the verification request form, go to your profile -> tap the menu icon -> select “Settings” -> choose “Request Verification.” Here, users need to provide your account username, your full name and a copy of your legal or business identification.

Finally, Instagram is adding support third-party authenticator apps like Google Authenticator and others to log into your Instagram account. In order to use the third-party authenticator, go to Settings -> Two-Factor Authentication -> Select “Authentication App”.

If the user already has the app installed in the mobile phone, it will automatically send a login code to it. If not, it will direct you to App Store/ Google Play to install the authenticator of your choice. The support for third-party authenticator apps has begun to roll out and will be available to the global community in the coming weeks.
