Snapchat might be working on Project Eagle visual ‘Camera Search’ in partnership with Amazon

Snapchat is said to be working on a new visual product search feature, codenamed “Eagle,” and this will deliver users to Amazon’s listings.  This feature is found buried under the Snapchat Android app and what this does is that when you “Press and hold to identify an object, song, barcode, and more, it would send the data to Amazon,  Shazam, and other partners.

Once the scanning is done, you can see all the results at Amazon. Simply put, it is a tool for seeing and navigating the world and it would make Snapchat from being just a social media maker and differentiate itself from Instagram. If Snapchat works out an affiliate referrals deal with Amazon, it could open a new revenue stream. This is something that Snapchat needs as it posted a $385 million loss last quarter and missing revenue estimates by $14 million.

Snap sells its Spetacles v2 camera glasses on Amazon and this is the only place beyond its own site. Snap Inc. The code found beneath the Snapchat app doesn’t explain how the Project Eagle feature will work, but in the newest version of Snapchat, it was renamed as Camera Search. ‘Snapchat’s Camera Search’ could be a direct competitor to Pinterest Lens, which identifies objects and brings up related content. As of now, nothing is confirmed, so we advise you watch out this space for more information that might come your way.
