Facebook said to be working on a new shortcut to tag friends in comments

Facebook is reportedly working on a new way to tag your friends in the comments and the feature is currently hidden and is being under testing. To tag your friends you just need to type @ followed by his/her name.

The new hidden feature uses a different approach to tag your friends, it introduces a new “Mention a friend” button to comments which on clicking will bring up your friends list which you can scroll down to select. The tags appear wherever your cursor is, or at the end of the post.

This is a cool new feature to have instead of typing names which is also equally good, if not for the momentarily escape of friends names occasionally. It is worth noting that something similar of this sorts is already available when composing Facebook statuses.  This feature is currently hidden and can only be seen on doing some heavy duty tweaking to the Facebook’s site code.

It’s obvious that Facebook wants no one to find out about this feature just yet, so it might be a while before this feature comes into action or it can easily be a remnant of an earlier test that Facebook forgot to remove. The company is yet to respond say when this feature will roll out.
