Instagram is testing a new favorites tool to boost private sharing

Instagram is testing a new feature dubbed as favorites that will allow users to share posts with limited number of people, according to a latest report from The Verge. You can create a list of people and choose to share photos or stories with them.

This feature lets you share your stories or photos with a limited number of people instead of everyone who follows you on Instagram. Facebook Messenger app already lets you share photos and other posts with a select group of people. At present, the favorites tab is being tested on small number of users and these users will see a green star icon on their Instagram profile. Tapping that will allow you to select friends to add in the customized list.

Users can remove friends from their favorites list and add new ones as well at any given point. Friends that are removed from the list will not get notified. People are trying to hack Instagram to create smaller audiences, and we’re trying to recognize that,” Robby Stein, product lead at Instagram told the publication.

Instagram has over 700 million monthly users and over 250 million daily active users accessing Instagram Stories.
