Acer in a joint venture with Starbreeze will develop a high-end StarVR Head-Mounted Display (HMD) for the professional and location-based entertainment market.

The StarVR Virtual Reality HMD was launched last year in June by Starbreeze at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In January 2016, company unveiled its location based StarCade initiative, introducing VR centers for user experience. The headset is capable of 210 degree field of view, which is almost double of the 110 degree field of view on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Now going further, the two companies will develop the virtual reality headset together, and Acer being an experienced partner will help Starbreeze and StarVR.

Starbreeze CEO, Bo Andersson Klint said:

Since our launch in June 2015, we have had an amazing start with StarVR. By partnering with Acer we shift gears yet again to firmly position us as the leader in top-end VR experiences. Acer is an excellent, experienced and prominent hardware partner that will accelerate us in realizing and producing a high-definition, high-fidelity VR headset.

Acer has recently launched its VR-ready Predator line-up, and with the new deal the company will have more desktops and laptops designed to power StarVR headsets.

Jason Chen, Acer Corporate President and CEO said:

We are devoting R&D resources across multiple aspects of the VR ecosystem for a coherent and high-quality experience, while just last month Acer announced powerful desktops and notebooks fully-ready for StarVR. Starbreeze and Acer share the same goal of delivering best-in-class VR applications, and we look forward to unlocking new VR possibilities together with this partnership.
