YouTube adds a new custom blurring tool for moving objects in a video

YouTube has added a new tool that will allow creators to blur moving objects in a video without going through the hassle of removing, editing and uploading their videos. The company had first introduced the face blurring tool in 2012 and is now building further on the feature.

The custom blurring tool gets a new enhancement feature lets you blurs any moving object in a video and saves you from re shooting the entire thing again. In order to use the feature, you will have to head to the Enhancement tool and select Custom Blurring from within the Blurring Effects tab. After selecting the video you want to blur, users have to draw a box around the item they want to blur and resize the area The Custom Blurring tool will automatically blur that object as it moves throughout the video. A “Lock” option is also present to blur something that is stationary and does not move at all. The edited video can be saved along with an original version.

Amanda Conway, YouTube Privacy Lead, said in a blog post

While the use cases for this tool are vast, we built this feature with visual anonymity in mind. We wanted to give you a simple way to blur things like people, contact information or financial data without having to remove and re-upload your content. We hope this new tool helps you to tell your stories on YouTube, and continue to experiment with your creativity and expression. We have no doubt you will.
