LG Innotek introduces compact optical bio sensor module for wearables and smartphones

LG Innotek Ultra Slim Optical Bio Sensor Module

LG Innotek, one of the popular components and materials manufacturers today announced a new ultra slim optical bio sensor module for wearable devices and smartphones to measure heart rates, stress indices, and oxygen saturation levels. “It has lower power consumption and measures data with higher accuracy than the existing products,” said the company.
It has thickness of just 1mm (0.04inches) and includes a Photo Diode(PD), 5 LEDs, and Integrated Circuit (IC). This uses advanced embedded PCB technology that embeds integrated circuits into the PCBs, for a thinner design, hence it makes the wearable devices and smartphones thinner.

It has gold-plated internals to maximize luminance efficiency by minimizing the amount of LED light that is absorbed and the strength of the biometric signals increases by about 30%, so you can use low power to accurately detect biometric signals.

“The module’s range of error for measured data is ±5 bpm during exercise and even in stable condition, it can measure data within an error range of ±2 bpm which is comparable to that of medical devices,” said LG.

LG Innotek has not announced when the new bio sensor module will be available. Hope we can expect this in a upcoming smartwatch, fitness tracker or even the flagship G5 smartphone from LG.
