Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge tipped to support microSD card, water resistance and more


More reports about the Galaxy S7 phones has surfaced and this one comes from the popular leakster Evan Blass a.k.a @evleaks via Venturebeat. According to Blass, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will sport a microSD expansion slot and also be water resistant.

Both the phones will feature microSD card slots that are compatible with cards upto 200GB. In addition, the phones will be IP67 certified which makes them dust and water resistant. Blass seconds the previous report and says that the S7 will sport a 5.1 inch flat display while the S7 Edge will have the 5.5 inch dual-curved display. The display resolution on both the phones is said to be Super AMOLED at 1440 x 2560 pixels along with the addition of always-on display (AOD) functionality that allows, a glanceable screen, added the report.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are said to be powered by company’s new octa-core Exynos 8890 processor however depending upon some markets, some models may feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. A 4GB RAM with 32GB or 64GB storage option will be available for the phones. Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will also boast of larger batteries as the former will have a 3000mAh (up from 2550mAh) and the latter will have a 3600mAh (up from 2600mAh). Wireless charging time on the S7 was revealed to be 2 hours and 2.2 hours for S7 edge, added the report.

Finally, in case of cameras, the report says that the phones will feature 12MP cameras with larger sensors and f/1.7 aperture. This is down from 16MP present on the Galaxy S6 phones. A new image leak earlier today also stated that the camera will be brought down to 12MP in Galaxy S7 phones. Samsung is expected to announce the phones in February.
