Twitter rolls out Audio Cards, teams up with SoundCloud and iTunes

Twitter has unveiled a new feature that lets users listen to music in their timelines on the Twitter mobile app. The micro blogging site has unveiled Audio Cards that will allows users to listen to songs, podcasts and other audio content on their Android and iPhone app.

In order to listen to music, users will need to tap on embedded audio from the new card right from a tweet. The Audio Card in which the music is playing can then be docked, thus allowing the user to enjoy the music while continuing to browse the rest of Twitter in the app. Twitter has teamed up with SoundCloud and iTunes for the same. Users can stream all the tracks from SoundCloud using Twitter’s mobile apps. Also, music from selected artists on the iTunes can be embedded using Audio Cards.

SoundCloud boasts a wide range of content from Nasa, the Washington Post, CNN, David Guetta, Coldplay and Warner Music. To listen, content from these partners, users will need to follow them on SoundCloud first. While, in case of iTunes, Foo Fighters song from a new album is available for streaming.

The SoundCloud partnership comes from Twitter months after rumors about a possible acquisition was looming around. Twitter launched #music streaming service last year in April that was taken down earlier this year in March owing to low response from users.
