5.5-inch iPhone could be called ‘iPhone 6 Plus’

Apple is known for its rather unconventional nomenclature; while most companies simply launched phones with an increment in the digit that followed the series (usually an X, G or Z), Apple chose to add a suffix to denote the differences. That’s happened with a lot of iPhones, including the soon to be outdated iPhone 5S and 5C.

A new leak emerging from the Land of the Rising Sun claims to know a bit more than we did until now about the next couple of iPhones. If you’ve been following the news in the past, you’ll know that the iPhone 6 is expected to have not one, but two variants. While a 4.7-inch one is expected to get a simple ‘iPhone 6’ name, the larger, 5.5-inch version, the report states, will be called ‘iPhone 6 Plus’.

This is in contrast to previous leaks that pointed at an ‘iPhone Air‘ name that the 5.5-inch version was expected to get. It has been a while since Apple used the ‘Plus’ suffix, which has since, naturally, gone out for favour for a lot of other manufacturers as well. It depends on Apple if it gets a second life or not… nonetheless, we are super excited for the launch, regardless of the name, which is expected to happen tonight.
