Nokia Lumia Amber update starts for Windows Phone 8 devices


Nokia has announced that they have started rolling out the most expected Amber update for their Lumia devices running on Windows Phone 8. This would bring lot of new features including improved camera, Nokia Smart CameraNokia Glance Screen with double-tap to unlock, FM Radio, Flip to silence and lots more new features. Nokia announced the Amber update back in May at the 925 launch event.

The Nokia Lumia Amber update brings:

  • Improved image processing (ISO settings from 800 to 3200 in the Lumia 920)
  • Nokia Smart Camera (Download the Smart Camera app from the Nokia Collection in the Windows Phone Store after the Amber update)
  • Nokia Pro Camera for the Lumia 920, 925 and 928
  • Nokia Glance Screen (for all WP8 Lumia devices except the Lumia 520 and Lumia 625 due to smaller display memory)
  • Flip to silence and double-tap to unlock
  • FM Radio  (except the Lumia 620)
  • Storage Check
  • Faster HERE Maps

The Nokia Lumia 520, 620, 720, 810, 820, 822, 920, 925, 928 and 1020 users would get the new Amber update. The Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 users and the U.S. customers with the Lumia 521, Lumia 810, and Lumia 928. Update for Lumia 520, Lumia 620, Lumia 720, Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 is expected to roll out by the end of September.

Users can manually check for updates from Settings, Phone Update, Check For Updates. You can check if the software update is available in your region / operator from the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 Roll out page from the left pane.Exact delivery timings will vary by region, phone and operator.
