Viber is adding a number of important features and improvements to its apps on Android and iOS. The update that bumps the app to version 6.1 gets GIF support and lets you backup your chats.

Firstly, Viber is getting support for GIFs which will allow users send, receive and view images in your conversations. The addition of this feature gives Viber the much needed edge over WhatsApp which still lacks GIF support.

Next up, Viber now lets you manually take backup of all the message history to iCloud or Google Drive. In addition, you can restore these chat messages to the same phone number, even if it is being activated on a new device and as long as it’s the same operating system. To take backup, you will have to head to More Screen and select Settings>Viber Backup>Choose Back up now. In case of restoring the messages, you will have to select Restore Viber Content.
