Facebook Live gets 24 hours live streaming feature

Facebook Live Video Android

Facebook Live video is upping it’s game even further with a new feature. The social network is now bringing 24-hour live broadcasts to its platform.

A new report from TechCrunch says that a new “continuous live video” API is coming to Facebook’s broadcast partners. This will allow broadcasters to stream continuously which is a major upgrade over the current 90 minute limit. However, 24-hour broadcasts cannot be saved permanently to a person or Facebook page’s News Feed. Users will not be able to replay it and also cannot go back in the stream to a specific time.  According to Facebook, the format is ideal for nature- or geography-related broadcasts, such as 24-hour recordings of animals in the wild, and national landmarks.

Furthermore, the report goes on saying that Facebook is launching a new feature called “geogating,” which lets the makers of live videos control who sees the stream by location. In addition, Facebook Live videos will soon show an “engagement graph” that visually highlights the portion of a live video where viewers were most engaged. This will help viewers to skip to the most important part instead of watching the entire broadcast.

A Facebook representative confirmed the report, adding that the company is currently running a small test of continuous live streaming and hopes to make it available more broadly in the coming weeks.
