`Microsoft has introduced a new Skype Bots feature that aims to bring “expertise, products, services and entertainment into your daily messaging on Skype”.

The feature brings interactive, animated bots to Skype that users can interact with and developers can use to build experiences for their services. You can order a pizza or book a hotel using these bots. Skype is offering bots like Bing Music, Bing News and Bing images. The company launched the first-ever Skype Bot SDK, which lets brands, businesses and other third parties create their own bots that can work on Skype and seamlessly integrating into users’ chats. Currently, bots are in messaging mode but will later get support for video and audio calls.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said during the conference,

We want to take that power of human language and apply it more pervasively to all of the computing interfaces and computing interactions. Bots are like new applications that you converse with – you’re not really looking for multiple applications, or pages and pages of websites.

With the Cortana integration, user achieve tasks while having a conversation inside a chat window with bots without leaving the app even once. For example, Cortana proactively helps you find information, manages your calendar and connects to other Bots that are relevant to you, all without leaving Skype

Microsoft is rolling out a new Skype client which is available on Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad and brings the Skype Bot experience to all customers. A preview of Skype Bots is currently available in India, Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, and US.

Preview Bots are available in the latest versions of Skype for Windows Desktop, Android, iPhone and iPad.
