1.4 Billion smartphones shipped in 2015 – Huawei and Lenovo see biggest growth

The year 2015 saw a total of 1.4 Billion smartphone shipments which makes it the highest number of smartphones shipments in a year. This is a 10.1% increase in shipments compared to the 1.3 Billion units of last year.

Samsung retained the top spot in terms of overall shipments as they shipped a total of 324.8 million smartphones. That isn’t much of an improvement over the 2014 figure of 318.2 million units but it still helped them retain the top spot.

Apple came in at second place with a total of 231.5 million units which is a 20.2% increase from the 192.7 million units they shipped in 2014. At number 3 is Huawei which saw a huge growth in terms of shipments as they got a 44.3% YoY growth. In 2014, they shipped 73.8 million unites while in 2015, they shipped 106.6 million units. Some of it could be attributed to the good reception of the Nexus 6P smartphone which is made by Huawei.

Lenovo and Xiaomi came in at 4th and 5th place respectively and saw a growth of over 20% each YoY. Lenovo shipped 74 million units while Xiaomi shipped 72.8 million units.
