HP announces new slimmer and lighter EliteBook Folio notebook


HP has announced a new slimmer and lighter EliteBook Folio notebook ahead of CES 2016. The company says that this is the thinnest and lightest notebook which is 21 percent slimmer and up to 15 percent lighter than the HP EliteBook 1020.

HP Elitebook folio

The EliteBook Folio is a business-class notebook which measures only 12.4 mm thin and weighs under 1 kg. It sports a 12.5 inch 1080p display and is encompassed in a CNC aluminium body. It also comes with an optional Ultra HD (UHD) 4K display. The device has a 180-degree piano hinge that allows it to open completely flat. The notebook includes Windows 10 Pro and is built with an optional 6th generation Intel Core M vPro processor. Battery life of the device is claimed to be 10 hours. The notebook also comes with the full-size, HP Premium Keyboard, a Windows 10 gesture-enabled clickpad, and two USB-C(TM) ports with Thunderbolt(TM) 3 for fast data transfers and 4K displays. The audio for the device is powered by Bang and Olufsen.

Next up HP has also announced the HP EliteBook 1040 G3 and EliteBook 800 G3 series business-class notebooks. The former comes with the same all-aluminum diamond cut design similar to the new EliteBook Folio while the latter comes with a silver magnesium and aluminum body. The EliteBook 1040 and the EliteBook 800 series offer Windows 10 Pro, 6th generation Intel(R) Core vPro processors, PCIe Gen3 SSD, and DDR4 memory. Audio for both the notebooks powered by Bang & Olufsen, HP Noise Reduction Software and HP Clear Sound Amp. The EliteBook 800 series is available in 12.5-inch, 14.0-inch or 15.6-inch diagonal HD, FHD, QHD or UHD screens; the EliteBook 1040 offers a choice of either FHD or QHD screens.

Pricing and availability

  • HP EliteBook Folio – price starts at $999 (Rs. 66503 approx.), expected to be available in March
  • The HP EliteBook 1040 G3 – price starts at $1,199 (Rs. 79844 approx), expected to be available in January
  • The HP EliteBook 800 G3 series price starts at $949 (Rs. 63184) expected to be available in January
