LibreOffice Viewer Beta for Android

LibreOffice, a community-driven software that is available for desktop is now available in the form of LibreOffice Viewer Beta for Android. Created by Collabora engineers, this is a Open Source app for smartphones and tablets that lets you view documents, spreadsheets, and basic presentations in Open Document and Microsoft Office formats. Complex presentation support and additional features would be available in the future, says the creators.

The app is still in beta and is not yet stable. You can offer your feedback and file bug reports using the bugtracker here.

Regarding the new LibreOffice app, Michael Meeks, Vice President of Collabora Productivity, said:

  • Open Document Format (.odt, .odp, .ods, .ots, .ott, .otp)
  • Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013 (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx, .dotx, .xltx, .ppsx)
  • Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP/2003 (.doc, .ppt, .xls, .dot, .xlt, .pps)
  • Interactive document elements (e.g. URLs) and support for browsing external SD storage would release in future
