OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a tailored ChatGPT Work experience that combines built-in financial data with GPT-6 Astra’s reasoning capabilities to help financial services teams with research, financial models, and customized client materials.
The product was developed through design partnerships with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. The collaboration helped OpenAI identify challenges faced by financial institutions and guide solutions for day-to-day banking work, with the initial focus on investment banking and equity research.
Financial data and provider access
ChatGPT for Financial Services includes financial datasets from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase. The data covers:
- Earnings transcripts
- Financial statements
- Company fundamentals
- Private companies
- Other financial data
Teams can start working with these datasets without negotiating separate contracts or setting up connectors. OpenAI indexes and hosts the data on its infrastructure to improve retrieval, latency, and how information is surfaced in the product.

The company also says this enables higher accuracy and granular citations. Bankers can trace figures and claims back to their sources and check the supporting evidence as their analysis develops.
For example, a banker conducting a P&L normalization analysis can inspect the reconciliation and notes behind an adjusted EBITDA, understand which costs were excluded, and determine how to use the result in a valuation.
OpenAI said its partners are central to this work. As coverage expands, the company will continue to deepen its models’ understanding of these datasets and post-train them to find, interpret, and use the data.
For customers with existing financial data subscriptions, OpenAI is working with:
- S&P Capital IQ
- LSEG
- MSCI
- Dow Jones Factiva
- Moody’s
The companies are working on shared sign-in and entitlement integrations. Providers can recognize users through their ChatGPT sign-in and automatically provide access to data they are already entitled to use.

MCP and connectors
The product also streamlines existing provider connections and improves MCP performance. Some of the most-used MCPs in financial services have been optimized for immediate use, reducing the need for teams to troubleshoot data requests.
The broader connector ecosystem includes more than 50 connectors, including Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet, and Intapp.
GPT-6 Astra and financial analysis
ChatGPT for Financial Services includes GPT-6 Astra natively. OpenAI says the model covers three core capabilities for financial services work:
- Information retrieval
- Financial reasoning
- Artifact generation
GPT-6 Astra can navigate figures, tables, and supporting notes in financial documents. It can take inputs, run financial analysis, draw conclusions, and synthesize the resulting work into documents, spreadsheets, and slides.
The product can research across multiple sources, trace figures across different periods, and interpret annotations in public data. Teams can then create interactive charts and visualizations from their analysis.
Newer models will continue to become available in the product as they are released.
Templates and financial documents
Administrators can publish Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated admin page. Firms can configure templates and style guides so teams can turn their analysis into valuation models, research notes, and pitchbooks using their firm’s format and style.
Security and governance
ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on ChatGPT Enterprise security and governance controls, including SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, and role-based access controls.
A firm’s business data is not used to train OpenAI’s models by default. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, while administrators can configure workspace retention.
Compliance teams can export supported workspace logs through the OpenAI Compliance Platform into existing audit and investigation workflows. Firms can also centrally manage access to skills, apps, and data connections by role.
They can enable or disable supported app read and write actions. Multiple workspaces can also be used to enforce information barriers.

Financial services expansion
OpenAI’s early work with Morgan Stanley and Evercore has focused on investment banking and equity research. Reliable access to data and high-quality artifact creation were identified as the biggest pain points for the teams involved.
The work with partners will inform post-training, product improvements, and expansion into other financial services categories.
Financial services firms and developers can also use the OpenAI API to build specialized applications for financial services. OpenAI provides its models and the capabilities to use them, while financial institutions, data providers, and software partners provide specialized expertise, trusted information, and customer relationships.
