X (Formerly Twitter) has released a rebuilt version of its Android app after nearly a year of development. Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced that the company rebuilt the Android app from scratch and described the project as “one of the largest engineering efforts in the company’s history.”
The rebuilt Android app focuses on improving core performance and reliability, with improvements including:
- Faster loading times
- Smoother scrolling experience
- Improved notifications
- Better overall app reliability
Nikita Bier said the new foundation will help X’s engineering team develop and roll out new features faster. He highlighted that the rebuild is designed to enable quicker feature development, stating, “It’s faster, smoother and more reliable. But most of all: it will enable us to build new features at lightning speed.”
He also noted that some improvements are still in progress, including better performance on older Android devices and support for hosting Spaces on Android.
The rebuilt X Android app is now available globally through the Google Play Store. Existing users can update the app to access the new version, while additional features and improvements are expected in future updates.
