Google has introduced two new updates for Google Vids with Gemini Omni and personal avatars. The features allow users to generate and edit video clips using text prompts and image references, while personal avatars allow users to create digital versions of themselves for delivering messages without recording a video.
Google said users have created millions of videos in Google Vids over the past year. In February, the company rolled out Veo 3.1 to all users, enabling video generation within Google Vids.
Gemini Omni enables video generation from text and images
Gemini Omni allows users to create and edit high-quality video clips by describing what they want using natural language prompts. Users can also add image references, including photos or rough sketches, to provide additional details.
The AI model combines text and image inputs to generate videos based on the provided instructions.
Users can refine videos through conversational editing by describing the changes they want to make. Gemini Omni supports step-by-step edits, allowing modifications without recreating the video from the beginning.
The editing options include:
- Replacing video backgrounds
- Improving lighting
- Adding effects
- Refining AI-generated clips
- Editing videos recorded on a phone
Google Vids adds personal avatars
Google Vids now allows users to create personal avatars that can appear in videos. Users can create an avatar by uploading a selfie and providing a short voice recording.
After setup, users can type the message they want to deliver, and the avatar will present it using the user’s appearance and voice without requiring a separate recording.
Personal avatars include the following requirements:
- Users need to upload a selfie and a short voice recording.
- The avatar is linked to the user’s Google Account.
- The avatar is restricted to the account holder’s likeness.
- Access is limited to users aged 18 and above in supported regions.
AI-generated videos include SynthID watermark
Google said every generated video clip created using these AI features includes an invisible SynthID digital watermark. The watermark allows people to verify that a video was created using AI.
Availability
Gemini Omni and personal avatars are available in Google Vids for:
- Google AI Pro subscribers
- Google AI Ultra subscribers
- Google Workspace business customers
Personal avatars are currently available only in certain regions and are limited to eligible users.
