Google has announced a new set of creator-focused features coming with Android 17, introducing improvements for social media content creation, AI-powered editing tools, professional video workflows, and social media integrations.
The company says the update is designed to help creators spend less time switching between apps while improving the process of capturing, editing, and sharing content across platforms like Instagram and YouTube.
Screen Reactions lets users record themselves and their screen together
Android 17 introduces a new feature called Screen Reactions. The feature allows users to record both their screen and front camera simultaneously without requiring a separate app or green screen setup.
The tool is designed for reaction videos, commentary clips, livestream responses, product reactions, and social media posts. Users can overlay their live reactions directly onto videos, trending clips, comment sections, or other on-screen content while recording.

Instagram gets Ultra HDR, stabilization, and upload optimizations
Google has partnered with Meta to improve the Instagram experience on advanced Android devices. The update introduces several camera and upload improvements designed to preserve image and video quality after posting to Instagram, including:
- Ultra HDR capture and playback
- Built-in video stabilization
- Night Sight support for low-light photography

Google says it has also optimized the capture-to-upload pipeline to maintain sharpness and detail in uploaded photos and videos.
According to the company, side-by-side tests using the Universal Video Quality (UVQ) model showed that videos captured and uploaded from Android flagship devices scored similarly or better than competing platforms.
Instagram Edits app gets AI-powered editing tools
Google is adding new tools to the Instagram Edits app using on-device AI processing to speed up photo and video editing workflows.
Smart Enhance
Smart Enhance can upscale photos and videos with a single tap using advanced on-device AI to improve overall quality.

Sound Separation
The Sound Separation feature can identify and separate multiple audio layers inside a video, including voices, wind, background noise, and music. Users can then reduce unwanted sounds while boosting specific audio tracks, helping avoid multiple retakes caused by interruptions during recording.

Adobe Premiere app expands Android creator workflows
Google says Android is becoming a mobile workstation for YouTubers, filmmakers, and vloggers, while the Adobe Premiere Pro app will include exclusive templates and effects for creating and posting YouTube Shorts directly from mobile devices.

APV format introduced for professional video recording
Android is also expanding support for Advanced Professional Video (APV), a new professional video format co-developed with Samsung.
Google says APV is currently the most storage-efficient professional video format available, powered by dedicated hardware acceleration on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
