Vi 5G launched in 8 more cities, now live in 17 cities

Vodafone Idea (Vi) today announced the expansion of its 5G services to eight more cities across India. The new locations include Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara in Gujarat; Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nashik in Maharashtra; and Kozhikode and Malappuram in Kerala.

This latest development is part of the company’s ongoing phased 5G rollout. Earlier this month, Vi introduced its 5G network in Mysuru, Nagpur, Jaipur, and Sonipat. The company has also announced plans for an imminent launch in Meerut, Vizag, Madurai, and Agra.

The current expansion brings Vi’s 5G presence to a total of 17 cities. The initial launch phase included services in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Patna.

This rollout strategy targets 17 priority circles where Vi holds 5G spectrum, covering key states such as Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, and Kerala.

According to the company, user adoption in the active 5G zones has been significant, with over 70% of eligible customers having experienced the new network.

To encourage adoption, Vi has introduced a special introductory offer. Customers with 5G-enabled devices in the designated cities can access unlimited 5G data with recharge plans starting from ₹299.

For its network infrastructure, Vi is utilizing AI-powered Self-Organising Networks (SON) to optimize performance and improve energy efficiency. The company has partnered with global technology vendors Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung for the deployment across these regions. This collaboration is aimed at ensuring a seamless integration of its existing 4G and new 5G infrastructure, while also aligning with its sustainability objectives.

Vi stated its commitment to developing a robust, future-ready digital network to cater to the evolving demands of both individual consumers and enterprise clients.
