BlackBerry 9720 with 2.8-inch display, BB OS 7.1 announced

BlackBerry has announced 9720, a budget smartphone running on BlackBerry OS 7.1. During Q1 earnings conference call BlackBerry announced that it would release a phone running OS 7 later this year, even though they have moved to the BlackBerry 10. It was also leaked last month. It comes with 2.8-inch (480 x 360 pixels) capacitive touch screen display with 246 ppi and a Full QWERTY keyboard. It is powered by 806 MHz processor and runs on BlackBerry OS 7.1. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. It also has a dedicated BBM key that is user customizable.

  • 1450 mAh battery that offers up to 7 hours talk time and up to 18 days standby

The BlackBerry 9720 would come in Black, White, Pink, Blue and Purple colors. It would be available in select markets from retailers and carriers in Asia, EMEA and Latin America. No word on pricing yet.
