Sharp starts production of 5-inch 1080p Smartphone displays with 443 ppi

Japanese Electronics Manufacturers Sharp has announced that they have started producing 5-inch display for smartphones that features 443ppi pixel density and 1920×1080 pixel resolution. LG unveiled a similar 5-inch HD smartphone display back in May, but it had 440 ppi pixel density. The LG’s 5-inch display did not see an official release yet. Even LG Optimus Vu II that was announced last week features a  5-inch IPS display with 1,024 x 768 pixel resolution similar to the first Optimus Vu.

It uses CG Silicon LCD technology to reduce the thickness and improve the viewing angles. It is being showcased at CEATEC 2012 in Japan this week. There are no details about the list of manufactures that would adopt the Sharp’s 5-inch display for their upcoming smartphones.
