Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched Vi Intelligence, a comprehensive strategic initiative aimed at driving artificial intelligence-led transformation across its internal operations, as well as for consumer and enterprise clients across diverse industries.
At the core of the initiative is the Vi Intelligence Lab, established in collaboration with PwC India. The facility is designed to function as an innovation engine dedicated to developing, incubating, and deploying enterprise-grade AI solutions. The partnership combines Vi’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure with PwC India’s business transformation capabilities. To support this effort, PwC India will establish a dedicated Centre of Excellence (CoE) team co-located with Vi in Mumbai.
The lab is structured to serve as an innovation bridge connecting international AI leaders, emerging startups, academic and research ecosystems, and enterprise clients to address complex, real-world business challenges.
Core Strategic Pillars and Governance
The Vi Intelligence Lab’s solution development across consumer, enterprise, and operational domains will be anchored around three primary pillars:
- Agentic AI: Developing autonomous systems capable of executing complex, multi-step workflows.
- Assistive AI: Enhancing human productivity and decision-making across enterprise operations.
- Sovereign & Responsible AI: Ensuring compliance with data localization, ethical standards, and robust security protocols.
To address governance and safety, all use cases developed at the lab will be evaluated under GRACIE, Vi’s proprietary Responsible AI framework. This governance mechanism is intended to enforce ethical data usage, secure intellectual property, and ensure regulatory alignment throughout the AI lifecycle.
Operational Framework and Key Programmes
The Vi Intelligence Lab will execute its objectives through several structured programmes:
- Incubation Projects: Focused on building and testing targeted solutions for industry-specific operational hurdles.
- Proprietary Technology Development: Creating custom AI models and technical assets to support enterprise modernization.
- Vi AI Open Hackathons & Challenges: Engaging global AI startup hubs and developer ecosystems to source innovative concepts.
- Transformation AI Factory: A streamlined pipeline engineered to advance verified concepts from pilot stages into full enterprise deployment.
- Workforce Capability Building: Training and skilling modules designed to prepare enterprise personnel for broader AI adoption.
By integrating telecom-grade network infrastructure with specialized consulting and AI engineering, the initiative seeks to help organizations transition from conventional rule-based automation to adaptive, intelligent business processes.
Commenting on the launch, Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vi, said:
